DIY: a beautiful bouquet with Magical Hydrangea

As autumn is in full bloom, your interior is also undergoing a bit of a change. Candles and blankets are appearing, inviting you to enjoy staying in. To make it even cosier there, here's an autumnal DIY tip. So if the rain is splattering against the windows, stay cosily indoors and get to work on this Magical Hydrangea bouquet. A Magical end result guaranteed in five easy steps.

You will need:

  • Fresh stems from your Magical Hydrangea.
  • Ornamental foliage such as eucalyptus, ferns or variegated leaves.
  • A sharp, clean pair of scissors or pruning shears.
  • A clean vase.
  • Fresh water.
  • Flower food (often supplied with shop-bought flowers).

Step 1. Gather some beautiful Magical stems

The ideal time to cut hydrangeas is in the early morning or late afternoon, when it’s cool. The plants retain a good amount of moisture at those times. Choose flowers that are fully open, and avoid flowers with brown spots or drooping petals. Cut stems diagonally and as low as possible so that they are at least 20 to 30 centimetres long.

Step 2. Bye-bye leaves!

Gather together the stems of your Magical Hydrangea and the ornamental foliage. Thank the leaves for their good work and then remove all the leaves that would be below the waterline in the vase. That will reduce bacterial growth.

Step 3: Arrange it

Start with the centrepiece of your arrangement: the Magical Hydrangea stems. Divide them evenly across the vase to create a balanced look. Then add the decorative foliage. Play around with heights a bit to make the Magical Hydrangea shine even more. Also make sure the width of the bouquet is balanced.

Step 4: Final tweaks

Then take a step back and assess your creation. Adjust it here and there if necessary, so that the bouquet looks balanced from all sides. If necessary, add some more water and mix in the flower food to keep your bouquet fresh for longer.

Step 5. Sit back and enjoy the compliments

Put your beautiful Magical bouquet in a spot where it can be admired a lot. Just make sure it’s out of direct sunlight and draughts. Every 2 to 3 days, change the water and trim the hydrangea stems again. You can also remove wilted flowers or leaves to enjoy the bouquet for a long time.

Have fun making it!
